Randy believes it’s important to simultaneously hold a number of different jobs so that if he gets fired by two employers the same day, he can still avoid the unemployment line. He splits his time and divides his personality between Randy Singer, critically acclaimed author, Randy Singer, veteran trial lawyer, and Randy Singer, ministry leader and preacher. When he grows up, he will decide what he really wants to do.

Randy graduated from Houghton College in 1978, married Rhonda Pursifull that same year, and began teaching and coaching at Houghton Academy, a local Christian boarding school. After five years of teaching and coaching, he left the front of the classroom to take a seat in the back, pursing his dream of going to law school. Three years later, he graduated second in his class from William and Mary School of Law.

Following law school, Randy began an active trial practice at Willcox and Savage, a sixty lawyer firm in Norfolk, Virginia, eventually becoming head of the firm's trial section. He tried numerous cases in state and federal courts, and holds the ignominious distinction of participating in the longest bench trial in Virginia state court history (six straight months of trial and you thought his sermons were long!). He also served as lead counsel in the first jury trial in Virginia that ever received gavel-to-gavel television coverage. That case, arising out of a shooting spree by a student at the school attended by Randy's children, also became the subject matter of the book Fatal Passage. During his time as a trial lawyer, Randy began teaching trial practice at Regent Law School where he presently serves as Chairman of the Board of Visitors and teaches The Art of Advocacy as an adjunct professor.

In 1997, Randy moved to Atlanta, Georgia and served in the ministry for nine years, first as an Executive Vice-President and General Counsel of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (NAMB) and then as President of FamilyNet television. Together with its state partners, NAMB is responsible for serving more than 5,000 missionaries and 2,500 chaplains, and helps facilitate more than 1,500 new church starts each year. FamilyNet television is a family-friendly and faith-based cable network available in millions of homes across North America.

A few years ago, Randy began pursuing a passion to write. Tapping into his courtroom experience and a desire to share the Gospel, Randy pens legal thrillers designed to entertain his readers while confronting them with biblical truths on controversial issues. His first novel, Directed Verdict, was published by WaterBrook Press in October 2002, and won the prestigious Christy award for the best Christian suspense novel that year. His most recent novel, False Witness, was called “gripping and obsessively readable” by Publisher’s Weekly, the nation’s premier book review publication. That review went on to claim that Randy had “proven himself to be the Christian John Grisham.”

In 2007, Randy returned to his legal roots, re-joining the law firm of Willcox and Savage, while continuing his ministry pursuits by serving as an interim preacher for two churches in Virginia Beach...Trinity Church and First Baptist Virginia Beach. A preaching lawyer: proof positive that God can use anybody to do anything.

Randy and Rhonda have two children. Rosalyn, age twenty-two, graduated from the University of Georgia and is now attending law school at the University of South Carolina. Joshua, age twenty, is a junior at Michigan State University. Rhonda teaches high school English and wonders how she will survive with one lawyer in the family and two more on the way. Randy's interests are basketball, running, canoeing, hiking, reading and cheering for the kids’ college football teams.
